Why I think the religious right is a paranoid schizophrenic.

Now, don’t get me wrong.  Mental illness is not something to be taken lightly.  But neither are the right wing kool aid drinking crazies.

I want to apologize in advance to any paranoid schizophrenics I may insult with this comparison.  I am not equating you morally or on a personal level.  Merely symptomatically.

paranoid schizophrenia is a chronic form of schizophrenia characterized by hallucinations, grandiose delusions or delusions of persecution, etc.

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that makes it difficult to tell the difference between real and unreal experiences, to think logically, to have normal emotional responses, and to behave normally in social situations.
“grandiose delusions”- like maybe being convinced God is on their side and they are justified in their pompous, arrogant, egotistical behavior
“delusions of persecution”- like maybe feeling the need to amend the Constitution to protect straight  marriage from the gays
“the difference between real and unreal experiences”- like oh, say, Death Panels
“to think logically”- like thinking that disappearing to Argentina for a week with your mistress will go unnoticed
“to have normal emotional responses”- like having the impulse to have everything come down to shouting baby killer or nazi at anyone who disagrees with you
“to behave normally in social situations”- like thinking it’s ok to threaten, harrass,  harm or kill people who don’t agree with you
Now, I’m certainly no psychiatrist.  But, the similarities are quite impressive.
So, then, what can be done?
Treatments could include:

Yeah, most right wing nutjobs I’ve encountered could use one if not all of those.

I rest my case.
